Training with power is quickly becoming the standard for many athletes, especially cyclists. Riding a bike is just about a perfect match for measuring power output using a power meter. I switched to power-based training in May of 2007 and haven’t looked back. The quality of feedback that I get from my PowerTap is unmatched for improving my fitness. There are many advantages to training with power but there is also some new terminoligy and methods that must be learned before you can get the most out of your training.
While I was researching my PowerTap purchase, I found a few resources that helped me learn about training with power:
Training And Racing With A Power Meter- This is the definitive book on using a power meter. Written by two of the foremost experts in the field, this book is a wealth of information. If you are considering the purchase of a power meter this book is a MUST HAVE.
Cycling Peaks Software- The site for the WKO+ software which is used to analyze your power meter data files. It is the software to use. The site has lots of goo information on training with power.
Google Wattage Group- A great discussion board with a wealth of power training knowlege. Well worth the time to sign up and participate.
In addition to my posts on training with power, I update some of my power training stats on this page. Check it out and see how well, or not, I am doing.
If you would like to get started with power based training, check out Ebay. They have lots of PowerTaps for sale.
